On the way home (S1 Ep.11-6)
Silence reigned in most of
your travel time. I don't know if what bothered more Joan was the absence of
privacy to talk about it, or if the subject itself. However, she didn’t contain
the words for too long after we get off
the bus…
Joan: Sorry about before. I
lost track of time, I was not counting to be finished so soon.
Rose: It's okay. You have
your things to take care of. I'm used to it. - Joan felt my tone of irony,
though, chose to ignore.
Joan: Did you advance much
in the financial plan?
Rose: I couldn't do much, no!
Elizabeth showed up asking for math explanations. – When I pronounced the name
of Elizabeth she didn't even look at me. – She left just before you get there, did
you not cross paths in the hallway? - I was making an effort to control myself,
but it was difficult. Imagine that one of my best friends were capable of such
cruelty was difficult!
Joan: No, I didn’t see her.
What do you think about, instead of working on the pieces, we advance the plan
then?
Rose: My mom is not at home
to help us... - My first thought was, "I don't want to be alone with
you". Is that weird?! I was terrified, unsure of what to really think
about all of this. Little was the time I had to assimilate all I discovered.
And then I remembered Charlie is at home.
– But, either way, we still have a little until the assessment. All
right! Do you want to
have dinner with us?
Joan: Yes. May we pass at my
house first?
Rose: Of course!
When we arrived at Joan’s
house gate, she went up and I was downstairs. I don't know if it was because I
was in the middle of an empty street, surrounded by the dark of the night, but
the feeling I was being watched came back. The night brings many of our fears
out. Sometimes, the shadows itself take
the shapes of the fears of our imagination, provoking terror, discomfort and
some paranoia.
If the delirium was with me
in this wait, really had to thank Joan. As faster as she said she would be, the
seconds seemed minutes and Elizabeth's words repeated itself again and again,
"you said things that made no sense. You seemed to be going crazy until
you took your own life."
Joan:
I’m here.
Rose:
Ah!
Joan: Sorry, I didn’t mean
to scare you.
Rose: It's okay. I was deep
in my thoughts, I didn't realize you were coming down. Do you have everything
you need?
Joan: Yes, we can go.
We follow, then, to my house,
which is not far from Joan’s. Although I was already accompanied this feeling didn’t
leave me until we came across with Charlie, who was coming out from the front
door in a startle, followed by Miguel, both with watery eyes.
Charlie: Girls, what are you
doing here? Did you not know?!
Rose: Know what, Charlie, what
is going on?
Charlie: Mario just called
me, the girls were hospitalized.
Joan: What happened?
Charlie: We're going there,
come on I tell you on the way.
Immediately my thoughts
focused on Joan. Would she be the cause of this evil? Would she have gone to
meet me at the library to finish what she started? With such doubts, my body
had been motionless for a few moments. Fear was what I was feeling, not only
for me but for what I didn't know and dreaded
might happen.
Joan: Rose!? – Her voice awakened
me. Her look conveyed her concern, real concern. I saw the girl I had grown up
with and she wasn't cruel.
We followed Charlie to his
car and from there we went to the Hospital.
