Joan & Sofie (S1 Ep1-2)
Monday, April 22
Monday! It's a school day. It’s twenty pat nine in the
morning, and I'm already waiting by Joan’s gate so we can go to school together…
- There she comes, with her unmatched joy
and that contagious smile.
This is my best friend, Joan. Since primary school,
we’ve been in the same classroom. Over the years, we got used to going to school together. Her house is on the
same street as mine, right on the way to the bus stop, so in the morning I meet
by her gate and we follow our way.
Joan can be a little stubborn. She doesn't like to
lose and can get quite uncompromising when she feels that the purpose is to
make her wrong no matter what. She is super feminine and loves her wild curls. She
likes to be surrounded by friends and to spoil us with her charm and style tips,
I think it is her favorite hobby. She is generous and humble, has a spirit of
sacrifice, with an unshakable work ethic and strength. She loves animals, the
beach, and her friends. She likes clean and organized spaces. Doesn't like to
be pressed or rush.
This school year is almost over, but what was yet to
come would only mark the beginning of a new chapter in my life. And without
Joan, without her support, my story wouldn’t be the same.
April is almost ending, which means that the feared
final exams are just around the corner. So, whenever we don't have afternoon classes,
we take the chance to study together. But first, a stop at the school bar to recharge our energy…
When I pulled my coin purse out of my backpack, Joan
looked at it with admiration, it was visible she wanted to ask something, but
she didn't say a word until we delivered the trays.
Joan: This coin purse is brand new, isn’t Rose?
Rose: Yes, do you like it?
Joan: I love it! The colours are so vivid. Is
wonderful! How do you come up with these ideas?
Rose: I don't know, I just let my imagination flow. Kin
of like you, when you pick your clothes and make your own combinations, you follow
your creativity and instincts, right?
Joan: Well... – She paused, thinking – Yes, that's
true!
Rose: What is it?
Joan: Oh, nothing. I just had an idea, but never mind.
Of my four best friends, Joan is probably the one who
knows me best. She’s not great with sewing, maybe because she never really
wanted to learn, but despite that, she loves helping me in the process of
making a piece, and whenever I have a new accessory, she gets super excited,
and loves to share new ideas for combination sets. It's not like her to hold
back her ideas, yet, by the time we got back to the table, the subject had already
changed.
The girl with shoulder-length brown hair, sunlit at
the ends, sitting on the left side of the table, is my tech-savvy best friend,
Sofie. She is the newest member of our group. Join us around the seventh grade.
Her mother runs a hotel chain, and from what I know, during her early years, she moved cities quite a few
times. Maybe that's why she values her alone time with her computer.
Sofie is extremely sensitive, which often makes her
suffer for others and be very careful to not hurt anyone. She has a peculiar,
slightly eccentric style. She is a good listener and a natural adviser.
Although she has the tendency to isolation, doesn't mean she dislikes to
socialize. On the contrary, her friendships are strong. She is autodidactic and passionate about what she
does. She loves puzzles, and deciphering solutions. She likes music and
complexity. She doesn't like showing weakness and the obvious.
Sofie: Joan, your birthday is coming up. Got any plans?
Joan: Yes! This year I thought about having a
masquerade ball, what do you girls think?
Rose: Wow. I love the idea!
Sofie: Yes, that’s such a great idea! Only you, Joan!
(Triiiing!)
Sofie: Well, time to study. – She said with the sound
of the bell, reminding all of us that the library was waiting. - Let's go? The
girls probably are on their way already. And I know Dianne is curious to know what
theme you have chosen for your party this year.
With the snack taken, we packed up our things, to be
set on our way to the library. Meanwhile, we were being observed from the hallway, without even realizing it.
As she walked by, Elizabeth was astonished by the familiar features she saw in our faces. She wasn’t
part of our group of friends, honestly,
I thought I had never even heard of her before. Curiously enough, until all
this story began. But somehow, it was through her that I discovered who I truly
am, and a part of what fate has written for me.
Further on you will understand what I'm “talking about”.
Elizabeth: "Stella? And Katarina...? It is not
possible! Is it?!" – She thought, as visions of two faces from her past flashed before her eyes.
With affection, Rose
