The Fraternity of the Guardians (S1 Ep.16-14)
Sofie: What? What we don't remember?
Joan: What I did was not in this life!
Monic: Both of you want to play a joke on us?
Joan: It's not a joke. I'm telling the truth.
Rose: The problem with living in the lie, Joan, is that you spend a lot of time involved for it that when you say the truth is hard to believe.
Joan: I know you're hurt Rose, I can only imagine how much. But I'm telling the truth and I'm going to tell you why I did it... For more than a Millennium, there was a Kingdom in this world where mythical creatures and humans cohabited. - With a gesture of her hand made the candles lit. – In this Kingdom, the oldest family endowed with the gift of spirituality was responsible for all its inhabitants. Despite being revered by others, all were treated equally and generation after generation an element from the four valleys was chosen to join the fraternity of the Guardians, and the Great White Witch appoint two more. From the Valley of the Mermaids, would be chosen the Guardian of water. – Made appear a ball of water. - "Aqua". From the Valley of the Wolves, would be chosen the Guardian of nature. - Took a small vase by the fire with a wilted flower and with a gesture restored its bright colour. - "Terra". From the Valley of the Fairies, would be chosen the Guardian of the winds. - Took a bit of land from the vessel and made it rise in a spiral of air. - "Aer". From the Valley of the gold, would be chosen the Guardian of fire. - A flame arose from her hand. - "Ignis". The Great White Witch would pick two more. "Vitae", the Guardian of life and "Tempus", the Guardian of Time.
Monic: Even if we were your guardians, we couldn't be all here. Did you make us forget the other two, was it?
Joan: No. I made you forget who you really are.
Dianne: Where are you going with this story?
Joan: I want you to understand. I want to tell you the truth. No more secrets. I didn't do it before because I was afraid. But I think you're ready now.
Sofie: It's a little hard to believe in this story ... I mean, the tricks are impressive, but we're friends, we weren't going to judge you by your fantasies!
Joan: It's not a fantasy, Sofie. It’s real. We're cursed.
Dianne: So tell us, how did we get here?
Joan: At that time the prosperity of our people raised jealousy and misunderstanding. The threats were constant. We weren't violent people, we fought only to defend ours. But we never took a life. We lived on the principle of "live and let live". And that was our biggest weakness in the eyes of foreigners. One night the castle was invaded by those who called themselves Inquisitors, they were protected by black magic. The Prince and Princess surrendered to our protection so that we could run away. The Princess begged me to keep the essence of our people alive. Before leaving the Castle I performed a ritual, the guardians sacrificed their lives so that I could bring them back, all of us. "When the sun and moon line up at the time of our incarnation our reincarnation will rise!"
Sofie: So, every five hundred and thirty-two years will we be back?
Joan: Yes.
Sofie: If it is so, this is not the first time we "reincarnate"!
Joan: Not Sofie. Half a century ago, by the passage of my fifteenth birthday, I started to retrieve small pieces of memories of a life that was not from that present. I felt every vision in fractions of a second. I felt the fire, air, water and nature with such intensity that I thought I would implode. As the days went by I was learning what I was and how I was there, but also that I free the essence of guardians. In a few weeks, Aqua found me, shortly after Terra had joined us. At the age of fifteen years, the Guardian of life began the process and with her Ignis revealed his true nature. Before the star could be complete the Guardian of Life lost her way from us. Breaking the cycle.
Rose: With lost, Joan wants to say, died. By suicide. According to Joan she went crazy, couldn't handle the way she died the last time...
Monic: How did the Guardian die in her first life?
Joan: She was burned alive. And I don't think you should speak of yourself in that way, Princess.
Monic: Uoh. You are our Princess, the guardian of life? What powers do you have?
Rose: In the history of Joan looks like, but I don't have any power, Monic.
Joan: It's not a story and I believe that your mind was poisoned, and that is why you were in so much pain before you take your own life. Someone attempted to rewrite your memories, making you believe something that wasn't real.
Rose: Let me guess ... Someone like you, a witch! Right?
Joan: I believe so. Yes
Dianne: Is that why you took her memories now, to protect them. - Diane wanted to say something more, but saw the fear in the eyes of Joan and contained herself.
Joan: Yes, but to protect you too. With the death of the Guardian of Life, Ignis had never been seen again. And the remaining guardians got sick, slowly life of their bodies was stolen from them. - Joan's eyes filled with tears. – There was still life in you and there was nothing I could do. I have seen you suffer and I could do nothing to stop it. Your bodies were dying and your minds trapped in them. I learned that this was the price to be paid by the star not being complete. I removed your essence, absorbed your power, imprisoned your memories and put an end to your suffering. - Joan tears broke my heart. Now understand why she did and why it was difficult to confess. - You need to be ready to receive your memories just so I can give to all of you your essence. I’ll not bear to see you like that again.
The girls were incredulous about what had just listen. There was a lot more to be told, but Diane could sense that something much bigger was to be revealed.
Rose: I forgive you. But please don't hide anything from us again. As hard as it is, no matter how unbelievable it may be...
Dianne: We keep always together.
Sofie and Monic: Always together.
We joined in a group hug in an attempt to comfort Joan. All understood her difficulty in admitting such an act, we all saw the suffering in her face.
Dianne: Well, this is our last night here, let's clean up the tears and enliven the environment. - Gave a hand to Joan and another to Sofie and in a chain, all unite hand in hand – I believe we all have our doubts, but if we trust our lives once to the Great White Witch, once again I ask you to do so. Over time we will return to what we were, when she sees fit. - Raised both hands and continued. – To the Fraternity of the Guardians!
All: To the Fraternity of the Guardians.
Dianne was right, we all had questions, we wanted to know more. But she had a question shouting in her thought as a warning.
Dianne: I'll make some tea for us, the night looks like it's going to be long. And rescue Joan for a moment before she is overrun by your questions. Come on! - Reached out to Joan and both followed into the kitchen. Looked at the door, making sure that none of us had followed and then asked. - Who poisoned Rose, is back, isn't it?
Joan: Yes, Dianne. She will need all of our help, or you will be all doomed...
