"Masquerade Ball" (S1 Ep1-4)
Being prepared is one of the most complicated situations in life, everything can change in a split second, everything you thought was right can be wrong and you're not ready for that. No matter how much you practice, no matter how much you plan, there are many unexpected moments that surround us expecting a distraction to catch us. And that's when you wonder, "Wasn't I prepared?!"
Both Dianne and Joan rarely are caught in such moments. Hence the surprise of Dianne for still not having heard Joan talk about her plans for her birthday party. The difference between both is that Joan makes plans without making them. In her words “They are the mere outline of ideas, to get her bearings on the path she wants to follow and not guidelines. Dianne plans everything in detail, looking ahead to the unexpected. It is in the detail that the devil lies, so there's always plan "B" and "C", in her words.
Joan's parties are known to be dynamic, always with attention to detail and subject to surprises. Receiving an invitation is somewhat exclusive, usually only family and close friends are the ones to eventually receive them. She has a long list of close friends. Her popularity at school is one of the factors for the length of this list. Those who end up not receiving it, do not cease to be welcome in her party. She is generous and likes the attention. I can already imagine the euphoria when the word spread about the chosen theme for her birthday party this year. "Masquerade Ball"!
Hum... A masquerade ball. It makes me dream about Princesses and Charming Princes. Find love on a magical night, full of mystery, with our faces hidden behind beautiful masks, along with the elegance of delicate dresses. Dancing the waltz with a stranger who has a certain domain over me using only his eyes. Such is the fascination that transposes by his confidence with which holds my torso, delicate and firmly. Such are the overwhelming emotions over me, that I feel he is the one keeping me standing, he is my pillar and just he and I exist at that moment…
But back to reality. I need to find a mask for Joan’s party. The girls want to go tomorrow to buy new ones, but certainly, I have some of the Carnival costumes from other years' storage somewhere. And if I save money on the mask and clothing, I can buy the material for the gift that I want to do. I still have to think about what will be, although I already have an idea of what might be. It has to be fun, bright colors, pink can’t be missing, Joan loves pink, and it has to be feminine.
Joan is a very special friend and my gift has to be it too.
